Life and such

Life is truly hectic right now. Due to the economy, and an intersting work situation I am taking in my brother and sister-in-law. Right now my house looks like a warzone as I try to clear out stuff to make room for them.
This will be a challenge for me to go from living alone for 18 years to living with two people and an extra dog.
But, hey. I don't like things to get boring - and now they won't.

Trying to get back into the swing of things. Students return the 25th. I'm at my desk working on lesson plans when guess who decides to impersonate a mountain goat and crawl onto my desk? Sprocket! I guess this is his subtle way of saying that it's time to play.

Scooter mania

I have bought a scooter. It's a Honda Helix - banana yellow. (Pictures will come soon.) I'm pretty excited about this, because it gets about 70 miles to the gallon, and has a 3.5 gallon tank. Just imagine going to the gas station and filling up for $5. Sweet!

Sprocket update

Sprocket's paw is still raw, but healing. Poor baby is worrying the paw - it must itch like mad while it heals. He has been nicknamed "Needy McGimpy".

On an early morning walk, Sprocket cut his right front paw. Thus commenced the early morning venture to find an open store to get bandages. Poor baby didn't like having his paw bandaged - but he's okay now. I want to give his wound a chance to heal before I remove the bandages.

MOTORCYCLE

I got my motorcycle license today!! Woohoo!! I'm going to start looking for something tomorrow. I'm not sure if I want to get a high-powered scooter or a full motorcycle. I guess it will depend on what feels right. I will post pictures of whatever I get.

Exercise

I am on a new exercise and eating plan. I'm determined to drop this stubborn weight! So far the plan is working. Yeah!! I eat no more than 1200 calories a day, and I exercise 5 times a week. Jesse, my PT, said this would shake the weight off. Oh my! Is it ever. In a week I've dropped 2 1/2 pounds! Woohoo!! I'm told that normal weight loss is 1 - 2 pounds a week so I'm excited! I want to keep this momentum going. So, out of curiosity, I would like to know if you have an exercise routine or an eating plan that you follow. Perhaps we could even swap tasty, low-fat recipes.

Today is June 5, and I say good-bye to another group of students. The ending of this year seems almost anti-climactic. Not that I want drama - I don't. But, the year has felt like this...drama, drama, drama.....end of year. My last workday is Thursday, June 11, and then I begin my summer job Monday, June 15. Well, I guess it's better to be busy than bored. Here's hoping that all of you have a wonderful summer!

My wild weekend

This weekend I decided to do something wild, something I have never done before. I took a motorcycle class. Yes, motorcycle. I learned how to drive a motorcycle! How cool is that! It gets even better. Today I took the driving skills test - and passed! Now, I just need to take the written test at the DMV, and I will have my official license. Woohoo! I have my eye on a scooter that I would love to drive, and now I can! Now, I have a question for you...what have you done that was wild and crazy?

MS Walk - a call for help

Good evening, LJ Friends! Saturday, May 16 will be a busy day for. I will be participating in a walk to raise money and awareness of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). I will be walking in honor of my mother who has dealt with MS for over 25 years. I am asking for your help in raising awareness and funds for MS. I ask that you would help sponsor me in the walk. If you are interested in helping me simply go to the MS Society website. (I am in region 7). My team name is "Independence Key Club". I would be eternally grateful for any help that you can send my way. I truly hope that my mother is able to see the day when a cure for MS is found. Sprocket and the squirrel

On an evening walk Sprocket spotted...THE SQUIRREL. He then chased the squirrel (still on lead) and succeeded in treeing said squirrel. But, the squirrel would not come down. So, Sprocket decided to run around the tree to spot the squirrel (again, still on lead). Well, the poor dear ran around the tree so many times he actually pinned himself there with his leash! Hear I am laughing my head off and Sprocket doesn't know what to do. Well, least to say the squirrel got away, and hopefully Sprocket will now be a little wiser when trying to chase after...THE SQUIRREL.

We have snow about 4 inches of snow. This is the most we have had in almost 4 years. The entire city shut down. This has been a nice day to relax.

Today I helped a friend release his dog from this realm of existence. It was the first time he had ever lost a dog. He was a flat-coated retriever that lived for almost 17 years. Wherever you are, please raise a toast to Bogie.

Rain and hail

I took the dogs for their morning walk and along the way it began to rain. No big deal, right? I'm in a coat and hat, I'm protected. I then notice that the rain no longer sounds like rain. I look at my sleeve and see a "raindrop" bounce off of my sleeve. It's hailing! Pea-sized hail. I was far enough away from home where running wouldn't have helped much, but run we did. Of course, by the time I got to my front door it had stopped. What a morning!

Life in general

I finally have a weekend to sit back and relax a bit. I plan to spend a great deal of it knitting. I am currently working on a mitered-square afghan. Knitting in mitered squares is time consuming, but the effect is wonderful.

Sprocket is going to be one year old Monday. He is such a ham!

I'm curious if there is someone out there that has made plans for the Spring.
